Tuition: $425.00
Time: 8 hours online + 2 days in-person
Place: Tip of Spear training facility in Edmonton
WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?
Eligibility: Any officer defined as a Peace Officer in Alberta that has authority by their appointment to use force, including: Alberta Peace Officers (Correctional Services Peace Officers), Municipal Peace Officers, Military Officers, Bailiffs, and Process Servers.
Why do they need to take this course? It is a mandatory requirement to certify and re-certify for officers who are actively employed in the province of Alberta.
Prerequisites

Provide proof of current appointment (photo of employment ID badge).

You may be required to provide a letter of employment from your employer with your authorities stated.

ACCREDITED BY: Training Academy - Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services
CERTIFICATION: From Tip of Spear, Control Concepts Canada, PPCT Management Systems Inc.
RECERTIFICATION: Recertification is required yearly to maintain compliance with PPCT.

Program Breakdown
The Use of Force Recertification Program has three components:

Online Component-
Use of Force Legislation

Use of Force Legislation is mandatory for recertification, and the coursework must be completed before attending the in-person portion of the training. Includes a quiz which must be passed with a grade of 80%.

The in-person written exam for the Use of Force Legislation course is completed when the participant comes attends their physical skillsets training.

Review and practice your Peace Officer Use of Force skills-including all control tactics, handcuffing, and baton skillsets. Review Oleoresin Capsicum use. A practical skills assessment will be included, with all physical skillsets tested in isolation.

Realistic Scenarios

Included in the 2-day in-person training

Lifelike reality-based assessments designed to evaluate how officers integrate their skills and knowledge under pressure. All competencies- both theoretical and physical- are tested together in these exercises. A passing grade of 80% is required.

HOW TO TAKE THE RECERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Purchase the Use-of-Force Recertification Package
The package includes: Peace Officer Use of Force Legislation (Online, approximately 8 hours) and review, practice, and assessment of Control Tactics, Baton, and Oleoresin Capsicum. (In-person, 2 days). Please note that Oleoresin Capsicum recertification does not entail OC contamination, only theory components will be reviewed for recertification.
Complete the online learning module: Peace Officer Use of Force Legislation
Complete the online learning modules and quizzes in order to qualify to attend the in-person training.
Attend In-person Training
Once you start the online module, you will be sent a link to register for the in-person portion, and given several session dates to choose from. The training will take place over 2 days, at Tip of Spear Academy in Edmonton, Alberta. Please note that you must have your online module completed at least 14 days prior to the in-person training.
